ABOUT MAURITIUS FREERIDE CHALLENGE 2019For its 8th year, the Mauritius Freeride Challenge will be held from the 13th to the 20th of July with some amazing races around the island. Again, this year the Mauritius Freeride Challenge will focus on long distance slalom. Only the Pte Desny to Ile aux Cerf crossing of 50km will be combining windsurf, kitesurf & foil.
TEAM SPIRITObviously, there will be an individual ranking, but the main focus as every year will be on the team result. This year we have already confirmed teams from South Africa, Australia, Seychelles, France, UK, Germany and Spain. Even if the event is focused on the
fun side of windsurfing, the competition is taken very seriously to bring back home the Indian Ocean Team Trophy. Every year the Mauritian team dominated the event and last year the British team lead by Kevin Greenslade took the first place. This year the Dodo team are back together for revenge. This should give some epic races and discussion at the bar !
PROGRAMMEDuring the 8 days of the event, the 4 best days of wind & weather conditions will be chosen to race. Various kinds of races will be organized to suit all tastes & level. From flat downwind speed slalom to long distance slalom. Depending on the wind conditions, the best possible race course will be chosen to give a maximum of fun to all.
If the wind is too light wind in Pte Desny, the competition will be delocalized for the day and discover the other spots. Le Morne & Anse la Raie offers great wind acceleration.
Pte Desny CrossingThis year if the conditions are good, we will again be launching the longest windsurf & kitesurf marathon race ever organised, an amazing
100km race inside the beautiful lagoons of the east coast from Pte Desny to Ile aux Cerfs.
There will also be a
50km and
20km to suit all levels of challengers.
The
prize giving will be held on the last day of racing.
Our goal is YOUR FUN! THE SPOTS1. Pte DESNY (South-East)Pte Deny will be our base camp. This is the best freeride spot of Mauritius. Not only because it is the biggest lagoon of the island, but also because the launching area for kites & windsurf is amazing.
The biggest lagoon of the island offers so many different varieties of possible races that any direction of wind has its perfect race to suit all levels.
The wind being always onshore, even if you have equipment issues, you will always end up ashore.

2. LE MORNE (South) Mostly known for its world class waves, Le Morne is also a fabulous spot for slalom. The race we organise there is also known as being THE CLASSIC. The start is a le mans style and this race is unique in the world as it is held only a few metres away from the beach where hundreds of spectators can enjoy the show.
This is a fast & intense race!
3. ZILWA ATTITUDE (North-East) Anse la Raie is the
windiest spot in Mauritius with a huge magnificent lagoon where we will be doing some long distance downwind slalom with great cross shore wind.
All races are designed to make you have a maximum of fun...
No need to be a champion !!!
